Vince Gill has sold more than 26 million albums and earned 18 CMA Awards,
including Entertainer of the Year in 1993 and 1994. He is tied with George Strait for
the most CMA Male Vocalist Awards (five), and is currently second only to Brooks
and Dunn for the most CMA Awards in history. Gill is a member of the Grand Ole
Opry and has received 20 Grammy Awards, the most of any male country artist.
He co-hosted the CMA Awards from 1992 until 2003, setting a record for the most
times anyone has consecutively hosted a televised award show. In August of 2007,
the Country Music Association inducted Gill into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Originally a bluegrass artist, Gill first hit the Top Ten as a member of the Pure
Prairie League (“Let Me Love You Tonight”). By 1983, he had moved to Nashville
and has released hit singles ever since, including “If It Weren’t For Him” (with
Roseanne Cash) and his first Top 5 single, “Cinderella.” “Oklahoma Swing” (with
Reba McEntire) earned Gill his first CMA Award (Single of the Year) and his first
Grammy Award (Best Male Country Vocal Performance) in 1990. In 1992, “I Still
Believe In You” became Gill’s first #1 country single, followed quickly by “Don’t
Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away,” “One More Last Chance,” and “Tryin’ To Get
Over You.” Gill also topped the charts with “The Heart Won’t Lie,” his second duet
with McEntire. Gill has collaborated with Amy Grant on “House of Love” (an adult
contemporary crossover hit), and with Dolly Parton on her signature “I Will Always
Love You” from her Something Special album that earned the duo the CMA Vocal
Event of the Year Award 1996. That same year, Vince topped the Billboard Country
Albums Chart for the first time with High Lonesome Sound.
In 2006, Gill released These Days, a groundbreaking, four-CD set featuring 43 new
recordings of diverse musical stylings. Each album in the set explored a different
musical mood: traditional country; ballads; contemporary, up-tempo; and acoustic/
bluegrass music and featured a variety of guests. His 2011 album, Guitar Slinger,
reinforced the incredible range and talent Gill has and was a commercial and critical
success.
